UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS LAYOUT

As Mother's Day has just been celebrated we thought this layout was worthy of a showcase this week - a gorgeous photo of one of our clever girls and her children. This layout uses the Emily and Master cardstock designs from this line and steps it up with some fancy chipboard and other Upstairs Downstairs embellishments. Check out our metal appliques on the right hand side. We're in love with our bitty buttons. Don't you love it when it all just fits together - aaaahhhh so good!

So excited to be at Creative Escape again this year. Last year we worked with another Aussie gal and had our Wall Art kit used in the Delish Designs class. This year we're sponsoring a whole group of gals - woohoo!!!! And we're attending again - oh so can't wait for that hot hot hot Arizona weather and the classes to die for. THE EAGLE (STOCK) HAS LANDED

We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel as we head towards 'despatch' time in the USA. Stock also lands in Sydney this week so we can all go PHEW we made it! We've had some frustrations with delivery times as our fancy embellies have provided a few challenges to the factories we use to manufacture our product. We only want the best so we've had to wait until everything was just right before we ship out to you all.

This week's layout showcases our Summerhouse line and we just love the colours of this paper collection. Blue green colour washes through the range and it is accented with chocolate and orange for
maximum effect. Felt frames, vintage trims, bitty buttons, metal appliques, flutterbies, florets and crochet flowers are just some of the coordinating elements that match the paper. Over the next few weeks we're going to show you how to get the most out of these collections with some fabulous layouts and cards. UPCOMING RELEASE

We love patterned paper so much here at Ruby Rock-it that we are always looking at new ways to use it other than on our layouts. Just recently we've finished projects using our patterned paper on everyday items we'd use around the house - in particular boxes and door hangers. You can find some great paper machie and wooden boxes, flower pots and all manner of things that lend themselves to embellishment at your local craft store. Over Xmas we also collected a few boxes. We've been able to give them a whole new life with a bit of paper and ribbon.

Our RR lines are perfect for BTP as the colours and designs work with vintage or contemporary decor. The Summerhouse line is bright and cheerful - think lime green, orange, blue and chocolate while Upstairs Downstairs has deep reds, blue, cream and black - stunning! We can't wait for you to check them out next month when they begin to appear in stores.

In the meantime as the weather turns warmer in the Northern Hemisphere we are enjoying a late Indian summer here in Sydney. A little too hot to spend all weekend indoors scrapping but we can feel the change in the mornings for sure. Have a great week scrapping! x

4 WEEKS TO GO

We simply cannot wait to have our new lines shipping out to stores next month - we have had so much positive response to the vintage inspired Summerhouse and Upstairs Downstairs lines and we have absolutely loved scrapping with the samples here in the office.

I really love using some of the Dreamweaver stencils for painting on occasion. Here I've painted the back of our die-cut red cardstock and then created a simple layout on top. It all just came together beautifully once the paint dried!

Photos in black and white always work beautifully with vintage inspired papers and embellishments. This is a photo of my Mum and her brother over 50 years ago. How cute are they!! The rest of the layout is a few punched circles, a strip of ribbon, some punch-outs from our new release ATC cards and as we say down here in Australia BOB'S YOUR UNCLE (apparently Miley Cyrus loves it when her new Aussie bloke says this).

THE SUMMERHOUSE

I often scrap black and white photos with more subdued tones but I just had to show you how well our Summerhouse line works with black and white photos. I have collected a lot of these old photos as grandparents have passed away and I treasure every one of them. They showcase a time when I was (as my mother always used to say) "a twinkle in your father's eye". The Summerhouse colour palette - bright lime, orange and blue with a bit of chocolate thrown in for good measure - works beautifully with summertime photos and wonderfully with these photos taken in the 1960s - yeah baby! I'm now on a mission to create a whole album of Num and Dad using these papers - so much scrapping to do, so little time! FUNDAMENTALS CARDMAKING

Well we're back home in the humidity leaving behind the cooler weather in Anaheim. We had a blast at CHA catching up with our retailers, reps and other manufacturing friends.We loved the new stencils our friends at Crafters Workshop released. It was so great to catch up with Rachel from Thermoweb who we last saw in Arizona - see her blog: www.lostintheattic.typepad.com - such a talented gal and we loved meeting Lisa Kettell who does some really interesting things with paper - http://www.faerieenchantment.blogspot.com/

But (sigh) it's back to reality and we have lots to do to get some of our new lines up to Chicago and out to stores in April 2010. This year at CHA we also launched our new Fundamentals range of cardmaking products. In this pic we showcase some of the elements you can find in the line - chipboard accents, flocked diecuts and great cardstock. Cardmaking has taken off dowunder in recent months and judging from the interest we had at CHA you guys are embracing it too. I have to say there is nothing better than receiving a handmade card on a birthday or other special occasion. Years ago I worked for American Greetings and loved merchandising new card lines. I cannot remember the last time I actually bought a card now though as I have turned my hand to cardmaking in a big way over the last few months. This is a little stressful at Xmas time when 30 cards have to be made and I have 2 days to do it but I'm always glad I made the effort when they're all finished! CHA 2010

CHA finally and boy are we glad to be here. We love catching up with all our friends and making new ones at the Show. Totally loving all the new stuff on display and the creative vibe. Yet to get to EK to ice a cupcake but the creations they're making over there look fabulous - much too good to eat!

We have been really busy catching up with stores that ran our lines in 2009 ordering our new lines and talking to lots of new stores about running our lines in 2010. We're sure you guys will find it much easier to get hold of our lines this year. Our www.rubyrock-it.com website lists those stores who already stock us and we'll be updating this once we get back to Australia to let you know who will be carrying our new lines this year. FUNDAMENTALS CARDMAKING

A little showcase of the kraft palette in our new Fundamentals cardmaking range. 6 cardstock colours (white, silver, black, chocolate, gold and kraft), matching envelopes, vellum and heaps of embellishments make up this range. The line makes cardmaking fun and easy again. Glitter alphabets, teeny tiny rub-ons, flocked and foiled fancies, chipboard accents, cardstock die-cuts - you're going to love it. CHA 2010

Well it's been awhile since I updated this blog. We've been really busy finalising a website for CHA 2010 and you can now get a sneak peak of our new lines at http://www.rubyrock-it.com/ - we still have to get our gallery up in the next few days but it's going to keep you guys really up-to-date with what we're up to.

We have two new lines to show off at CHA about 5 days - The Summerhouse and Upstairs Downstairs - both have a really vintage feel and we're particulary thrilled with our crochet flowers and metal appliques - there's one in the middle of the flower in the blue layout of my grandparents. We're loving ourselves sick with these.

KINDRED SPIRIT

Enough Creative Escape and back to work!! Had lots of fun with you all up in the USA and loved the weather. But now its back to reality as we begin to finalise our lines for CHA 2010.

Don't you love this layout from Rebecca Keppel - I love the colour and the mix of product she has used with our Kindred Spirit line. Thanks so much for sending this in Rebecca - this is gorgeous.

THE GALS FROM OZ

Finally the reveal - the project Ruby Rock-it worked on with Delish Designs for Creative Escape. Lynette Carroll (at the back in the CE apron) designed this great wall art hanging and Ruby Rock-it supplied the black book board base and decorative pearls used on the hanging. What a great class - we completed it in an hour and a half and I can't wait to get it home to put my own photos on it. The example above is Lynette's class sample. Here we all are at the end of the class after everyone else had left. Contact Scrapbooks Etc in Arizona for project kits if you would like to make this project - there were some left over but not many. This is an exclusive item for Creative Escape. And back to those lamps - guess how much Tim Holtz's lamp sold for at the charity auction last night - US$30,000 - no there are not too many zeroes - a great boost to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation and a fab home decor addition to one scrapper's home. It was gorgeous and Tim was totally overwhelmed at the amount - we love you Tim!

FROM CREATIVE ESCAPE 09

Today I had to check out the stunning lamp display in between classes. All of the teachers plus a few fab others took a simple Ikea lamp and turned them into works of art. Here I am with Susan (from Atlanta) checking out Tim and Heidi's lamps -just goes to show where a little imagination can take you. All of the lamps are raffled tomorrow night with the proceeds going to charity.

I was lucky enough today to do classes with Carol Wingert, 7 Gypsies, Heather Bailey and the master of inky fingers Tim Holtz. Everyone is having a great time but I'm really looking forward to the class tomorrow with Lynette Carroll where we have some Ruby Rock-it product featured. It's been great to meet with so many women who just love this craft. Heidi Swapp said tonight we just gotta scrap otherwise we risk missing out on those memories that make our lives so unique. Make a little time today to do something even if its just a sketch in a notebook of the your next layout and then make an appointment in your diary to scrap that page! CREATIVE ESCAPE 09

So have been in the US for about a week and have met some amazingly creative people in Arizona. What a "hot" spot for creativity - not only the "celebrity" scrappers but the stores have some fabulous classes and projects for the locals. Last night I visited Scrapbook Barn in AZ and Jennifer, the owner of the store there, has the best page of the month kits I've seen in ages - check out her website at http://www.scrapbookbarn.com/ or http://www.scrapbookbarn.typepad.com/ and you'll see what I mean. KINDRED SPIRIT - GREAT FOR KIDS

This week we're showcasing our Kindred Spirit line. It has been so popular downunder - we've sold out of it twice and stocked it for a third time. Our US stores are telling us you guys are enjoying it just as much. The colour palette is so bright and cheery that you can scrap pretty much anything with it and it's one of those ranges for girls and boys - yay! This week's layout uses a black and white photo and our cute chipboard butterflies (seen in the summer edition of Creating Keepsakes). Our round stitched cardstock has been used to create a bit of a visual feature around the photo - gotta love the photo though - how cute is she!

We're getting ready for our trip to Arizona for Creative Escape and we're counting down the sleeps! If any of our followers are attending come and say hello - we're working alongside Delish Designs and Lynette Carroll with some of our products in the class. Looking forward to some warmer weather that's for sure - it's freezing downunder right now.

THANK YOU ...

This week a card using up some of the scraps we had left over from our Vintage Beauty layouts. This thank you card is particularly pertinent as I want to say a big thank you to all of you who have sent us emails and comments about our lines - we love that you love what we're doing -it inspires us to do even more for our next CHA Winter release.

On a more personal note this card is for my grandfather. It will be the last card I ever make for him. He is really ill and in palliative care. Before it's too late I want to thank him for all the lovely things he has done for me, the things he has given up to be such a great Dad and Poppa. I want to thank him for caring and for showing me that it's not about where we end up but the journey we take to get there in our lives and that the most important thing is to laugh long and hard along the way.

And that's why I think scrapbooking reasonates so much with me - it's not about showcasing the "achievements" in our life but more the things that happen along the way. It's about how our family gets from one stage to another and being thankful that we were able to be there when it was "all happening". Scrapbooks give us an opportunity to laugh again at those special moments that make up a life - for that I am thankful - especially this week.

A LITTLE BIT OF INSPIRATION ...

The layout this week showcases our Vintage Beauty line and in particular the Splendour patterned paper. We've torn it and inked it and used it as a mat underneath our photos. It works beautifully with a cream cardstock base which has also been inked. Also used is our matching ric rac and a couple of ATC elements. You can see one of the ATC cards under the left-hand corner of the large photo. These are silver foiled and look stunning. We love to doodle at Ruby Rock-it so always have a black journaling pen handy. Sometimes a layout just doesn't seem finished without a little doodle.

The stores that ordered at CHA 09 are already re-ordering after having stock for just under a fortnight. Our stocks in the US for this first release are limited so if you're thinking about placing an order with us drop us an line quickly at admin2@fynmark.com.au - we ship out of Chicago. All going well we'll have our trade website up and running in the next month so you can place orders online.

RUBY - MY ALTER EGO

Stock has begun to be despatched out to the market and you should begin to see our great lines Vintage Beauty and Kindred Spirit in stores in the next few weeks. We've had such an overwhelming responseto the ranges and we're just thrilled you like what we have done with Ruby.

Ruby is the little sister of our BELLA! brand which is in stores nationally in Australia. I'm the Creative Director of both and live in Sydney with my DH (dear husband) and two teenage children. I am constantly in awe at the amount of product available in the USA and as a "tragic" scrapbooking addict just love visiting the USA to stock up on supplies.

ALMOST THERE ........

We had a great time meeting many of you at CHA Anaheim in January 2009 and must admit things have not slowed down much since our return. We've been busy putting the finishing touches on projects we want to showcase to you all over the next few months and finalising production for product to head out into stores in the next few weeks. We've had a lot of stores contact us in Southern California and on the East Coast so check out your local stores for our lines early June.

CHA SNEAK PEAK 2009

Only 3 more sleeps until I see you all at CHA09 for the very first time. We are sooo excited to be exhibiting at our very first show in the USA. Check us out at Booth #2585 where my friends at Fynmark USA will walk you through who we are and what we do.

So who am I? I am based in Sydney, Australia and have a big sister called BELLA! My big sister BELLA designs some fab product for Australian consumers. I'm the new kid on the block for distributors FYNMARK and I design especially for you all in the USA.
